Apples & Pumpkins, Oh My! Our Favorite Fall Festivals

With the arrival of Labor Day, we’ve unofficially said goodbye to summer — and if you’re like me, you’ve already been dreaming of sweater weather, football, and pumpkin spice everything!

Though we’re still a few weeks away from pulling out thelong sleeves, Northern Virginia and Maryland are gearing up to bring us the best of fall. Here’s a quick guide for some of our favorite places to catch the festivities and foliage.

Apple Picking

Great Country Farms in Bluemont, VA

Open daily and every weekend in September for apple picking from 9AM-6PM

Weekday Admission: $8/child, $10/Adult

Weekend Admission: $10/child, $12/adult

In addition to pick-your-own apples ($1.99/lb), Great Country Farm offers a fun playground area, a gigantic jumping pillow, rope swings, a Putt Putt course, farm animals, fresh produce, cider donuts, and more! Cider Press demonstrations and live music are also available on the weekends.

Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, MD

Open every Tuesday-Sunday in September through mid-October for apple picking from 9:30AM-5:30PM(closed on Mondays)

Admission: $3/person, kids under 2 are free; No admission fee on Wednesdays!

Admission includes pick-your-own apples ($1.99/lb), a nature trail, farm animals, slides, and more!

Pumpkin Festivals

Cox Farm’s Fall Festival in Centreville, VA

Open daily September 24th-October 31st and November 4th-8th from 10AM-6PM

Weekly admission: $10/person, kids under 2 are free

Regular weekend admission: $15/person, kids under 2 are free

Prime weekend admission: $17/person, kids under 2 are free

Discount day admission (September 26-29, October 3-5): $6/person, kids under 2 are free

Kicking off its preview weekend September 17th-18th, Cox farms offers five giant slides, a hay ride, rope swings, a cornfield adventure maze, farm animals, a kids play area, tons of photo opportunities, free apple cider, live entertainment and more! Bonus: Admission entitles you to one free mini pumpkin to take home and decorate!

Leesburg Animal Park’s Pumpkin Village in Leesburg, VA

Open Daily September 17th-November 8th from 10AM-5PM

Weekday admission: Kids (2-12)- $9.95, Adults- $12.95

Regular weekend admission: Kids (2-12)- $11.95, Adults- $13.95

Prime weekend admission: Kids (2-12)- $12.95, Adults- $14.95

Regular weekends: September 17, 18, 24, 25, November 5 & 6

Prime weekends: October 1,2,8,9,10,15,16,22,23,29,30

Pumpkin Village will feature a petting zoo, giant slides, moon bounces, hay wagon rides, a kids maze, play area, pony rides, and camel rides as well as live entertainment on the weekends. Bonus: Admission includes a free mini pumpkin and apple cider!

Great Country Farm’s Fall Pumpkin Harvest in Bluemont, VA

Open daily and every weekend in October from 9AM-6PM

Weekday Admission: $8/child, $10/Adult

Weekend Admission: $10/child, $12/adult

The Pumpkin Harvest Festival at Great Country Farm will include all of the fun activities listed above as well as pumpkin picking (pumpkins are $0.59/lb). On the weekends, visitors can look forward to pig races, pumpkin cannons, a pumpkin munching dinosaur named P-Rex and more!

Open every Tuesday-Sunday in October from10AM-5PM (closed on Mondays except for Columbus Day).

Admission: $12/person, kids under 2 are free.

The Pumpkin Festival will feature pumpkin picking($0.65/lb), hayrides, pumpkin learning stations, giant slides, a corn maze, playground, pony rides, face painting, an apple slingshot, a pumpkin cannon, and more!
